URBIS (Urban Biosphere Initiative) starts its Webinars Series

The URBIS initiative, which has UNU as a partner, comprises a global alliance of partners aspiring to reconcile urban development with the conservation of biodiversity and the sustainable use of natural resources – a quest to engender cities with greater social-ecological resilience in the context of global environmental change. http://urbis.iclei.org/home

At the 10th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP10), in Nagoya, Japan, 2010, at which a Plan of Action was adopted for the engagement of local authorities in the Convention, a number of partners formalised their support for the URBIS initiative by way of a declaration.

On 07 May, URBIS launched a series of monthly webinars held the first Thursday of every month on cities and biodiversity (registration (free) is required).

The first webinar was organized by professor Thomas Elmqvist on “What is Urban?” (http://cbc.iclei.org/dialogue%20one)

The second webinar is on 4 June 2015 : “How to creat and support city and regional policy for effective nature-based soluations to urban sustainability, resilience and livability.”
